Did you know that Stokesley Town Hall belongs to you?
By the terms of the 1919 Indenture, the Town Hall was left in trust to the Parish (now Town) Council expressly for “the benefit and advantage of the residents of the Township of Stokesley.” More than a century later, that promise is still being kept.
A Grade II listed building at the heart of our Georgian market town, the Town Hall is open every day and available for hire from early morning until late evening, seven days a week. Whether you’re looking to host an event, attend a class, or simply visit the Town Office, the doors are open to you.

The Town Hall Trust
To ensure the long-term care of this historic building, the Stokesley Town Hall Trust is registered with the Charity Commission (registered number 225265). All Trustees are members of Stokesley Town Council and give their time entirely free of charge.
The Trust is supported day to day by the Town Hall Management Advisory Committee — a dedicated group of volunteers who look after the running and fabric of the building, working alongside the Town Clerk.
The Town Hall Management Advisory Committee
The Management Advisory Committee plays a vital role in keeping the Town Hall thriving. Working in conjunction with the Town Clerk, the Committee:
- Oversees the day-to-day running and maintenance of the building
- Ensures the Town Hall remains accessible to all
- Seeks grants, raises funds, and welcomes contributions for specific improvement projects
- Makes recommendations to the Trustees on maintenance and development priorities
- The Committee is made up of volunteers:
- 4 elected members
- 9 appointed members, each representing an organisation that uses the Town Hall
- Up to 2 co-opted members
The Committee meets at least six times a year (normally every other month, or more frequently if needed) and is required to hold an Annual General Meeting each year.
A Rescue Worth Celebrating
Perhaps the Committee’s most significant achievement came in 2000, when the Town Hall was rescued from a period of serious neglect that had begun to take a real toll on the fabric of the building.
The restoration was guided by a clear principle: to preserve the Town Hall’s original 19th century elegance while equipping it with modern facilities for the 21st century. The result is what we enjoy today — a living, breathing piece of Stokesley’s history, beautifully maintained and in daily use by the community it was always meant to serve.
Without the dedication, skill, and generosity of so many volunteers over the years, this wonderful listed building — the centrepiece of our Georgian market town — simply would not be what it is today.

When you visit, you can:
- Hire a room for your event, meeting, or celebration
- Browse the facilities available across all four rooms
- Visit the Town Hall Office (open Monday–Friday, 9:00am–12:00 noon)
- Speak to the Town Clerk about any queries
- Chat to our steward
- Suggest improvements for residents and visitors
