STOKESLEY TOWN COUNCIL
A Meeting of the Town Council was held on Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 7 pm in Stokesley Town Hall
Present : Cllrs Sally Atkinson, Mike Canavan, David Cook, Claire Craster, Helen Duggleby, Bryn Griffiths, Chris Johnson, Laura Wise and Gary Yuille. Town Clerk – Mrs Julie McLuckie.
In accordance with the notice of meeting a public forum session took place from 7pm to 7.15pm.
No residents in attendance.
North Yorkshire Council (NYC) – County Cllr Griffiths informed members that NYC had taken the owners of the Old British Legion Club to court in July and August. Only one of the owners had attended both times and had promised to carry out the required work. This work has still not been completed and therefore they are due back in Court this month. Cllr Griffiths would request a further update following this hearing and would request information on what exactly they have asked the owners to do to bring the building into an appropriate state or repair. Town Councillors pointed out that there are still orange barriers on the grassed area next to the Old Club that have been there for several months. Cllr Griffiths would request that these be removed.
Church Footbridge – Cllr Griffiths confirmed that the Bridge Engineer has agreed to replace several of the broken wooden panels on the church footbridge and that they would also arrange for the fence to be repaired on the Levenside.
Stokesley Grange Estate – Cllr Griffiths has reported the lack of waste bins on this Estate to the management company who had advised that they could install them but at a cost to residents. Town Councillors requested that Cllr Griffiths confirm what work is required by Taylor Wimpey to enable the roads on this estate to be adopted by NYC as per the original planning application and how NYC ensure that Taylor Wimpey comply. Cllr Griffiths was also asked to confirm who is responsible for the Play Area and Equipment on this Estate.
Litter Bins – Cllr Griffiths has continued to report the bins not getting emptied in accordance with the contract schedule. Following a meeting with a member of the NYC waste team it was agreed that some of the bins need to be replaced but that at the same time an exercise should take place to review where bins are positioned and to number them all so that issues can be reported easier.
