Getting Around & Parking
Parking in Stokesley is free and straightforward:
- The Plain & College Square – Free parking with no time limit
- High Street cobbled areas – Free 2-hour parking with a disc (available free from the Town Hall and most shops)
- Showfield Car Park – Pay and display, also includes coach parking
- Disabled parking is available on The Plain, College Square, the High Street and in the paid car parks
Walking & Local Attractions
The countryside around Stokesley is a walker’s paradise. Wainwrights classic coast to coast walk passes through Ingelby Cross and over the Cleveland Hills to Claybank where it intercepts the Cleveland Way National Trail, which passes through nearby Osmotherley, Clay Bank and Kildale. For shorter walks, try a family and dog-friendly circular walk to the village of Great Ayton just three miles from Stokesley.
A little further on is the iconic Roseberry Topping, our local Matterhorn. This can be accessed by a short but steep walk from the National Trust car park at Newton Under Roseberry; expect fantastic views across to the coast, the moors and industrial Teesside. A little less steep is the walk up to the imposing Captain Cook’s Monument from Gribdale car park above Little Ayton.
Cycling
Stokesley is a hub for cycling with several great road and mountain bike routes. The town has been the route for the 2022 and 2024 Tour of Britain. The town is bordered by national Sustrans routes.
And we have a range of cycle park facilities and fresh water available for any visiting cyclists.
North York Moors
The North York Moors National Park is on our doorstep with great walking, cycling, riding, beautiful villages, historic abbeys such as Rievaulx, the Jurassic coastline, the industrial archaeology of Rosedale and the finest heather moorland in the world. Stokesley is a great base to access this wonderful part of North Yorkshire as the gateway to the North York Moors.

The Town Centre & Heritage Trail
Stokesley town centre is a designated conservation area with many Grade II and Grade II* listed buildings. Two great ways to explore the town’s rich history:
